Argente Champagne
Although rare here in Ontario, we have imported some breeding show stock from Pennsylvania to bring back this breed in our area. Keep checking back for results in breeding and showing.
The Argente Champagne is one of the oldest breeds of rabbit. Argente Champagne were bred in the province of Champagne, France since the 17th century, though they may have been raised even earlier by Benedictine monks within the walls of Champagne monasteries. Champagnes weigh approximately 7-10lbs. Their under colour is described as dark slate blue, with a bluish white body. They are preferred to have long jet black hairs interspersed in their fur to create a silvery tone when viewed from a distance. Kits are born pure black and begin turning silver gray at about 3 months. By 6 months old they are typically a shade of silver grey.
Nicknamed as the "Black Angus" of rabbits. They are known as excellent pets due to their good nature.
